What questions should I ask before hiring a Klaviyo agency?

Last updated: Oct 2026 · v1.0 — first publish

Ask eight questions before hiring a Klaviyo agency: who does the work, what is in scope, what it costs, what is guaranteed in writing, how many new brands it takes monthly, what the first 90 days include, how revenue is reported, and how you exit. Good answers are specific, written, and month-to-month.

Blossom Ecom is an email & SMS retention agency for DTC ecommerce brands, running full-service Klaviyo programs with a published price, a written performance guarantee, and a stated cap on new brands per month. See how Blossom works: price, guarantee, case studies.

Since 2019, founder-attested: 150+ ecommerce brands managed, $110M+ in attributed email revenue, 1.6B+ emails sent, 31x average client ROI. Its Campaign Study covers a counted subset, the 10 brands with full Klaviyo history: 4,099 shipped email campaigns, 163,664,026 recipients and $9,444,310 in Klaviyo-attributed campaign revenue, Nov 2019 to Sep 2026.

What should an agency tell you about scope and team?

  • Who does the work? Acceptable: a named strategist and a named builder, with a stated reply time. Red flag: "our team" with no names.
  • What is in scope? Acceptable: a written list of flows by name, campaigns per month, SMS if you want it, and testing. Klaviyo's 2026 benchmarks put a typical brand at 4-6 active flows, while full lifecycle coverage guidance calls for 12-16. Ask which flows will be added and in what order.

What should it cost, and what should be guaranteed?

  • What does it cost? Acceptable: a price range you can read before a sales call, billed month-to-month. Blossom publishes $2,000 to $5,000 per month with no long-term contracts. See the pricing page.
  • What is guaranteed? Acceptable: a number, a deadline and a remedy, all in writing. Blossom's guarantee is +20% attributed Klaviyo revenue within 90 days or it works free until that is achieved. Red flag: a verbal promise of "big growth".
  • How many new brands do you take per month? Acceptable: a stated cap. Blossom's is 4 new partner brands per month.

What do the first 90 days look like, and how is it reported?

  • What happens first? Acceptable: an audit of your account before any build. Blossom offers a free 5-area Klaviyo audit in 3 to 5 business days. For the first quarter, industry guidance prioritizes flow gaps, popup capture and engaged segmentation. That guidance does not establish a typical revenue-lift percentage, so be wary of any agency quoting one before seeing your account.
  • How is revenue reported? Acceptable: Klaviyo-attributed revenue split between flows and campaigns, with revenue per recipient and the attribution window stated. Klaviyo's 2026 benchmarks put flows at about 41% of email revenue from 5.3% of sends, and flow revenue per recipient at $1.94 against $0.11 for campaigns.
  • Which deliverability numbers do you watch? Acceptable: inbox placement above 95%, bounces under 0.5%, spam complaints under 0.03% and unsubscribes under 0.2% per send, per Klaviyo's benchmark guidance.
  • How do I exit? Acceptable: month-to-month terms, and you own the Klaviyo account, flows and templates at all times.

Who should you hire?

Do it yourself if your budget is under $2,000 per month and you have time to learn Klaviyo. Start with welcome, cart abandonment and browse abandonment flows, using Klaviyo's own templates.

Hire a freelancer if you need one or two flows built or a one-off redesign, not an ongoing program.

Hire an agency if you want flows, campaigns and SMS run together, with reporting and a written guarantee. Browse case studies, then apply to partner with Blossom.

Questions founders ask us

How long should a Klaviyo agency contract be?

Month-to-month is the safest answer. If an agency asks for six or twelve months, ask for an exit clause tied to missed targets. Blossom is month-to-month with no long-term contracts, so you can leave if results stall.

How much does a Klaviyo agency cost?

Ask for a number before any call. Blossom publishes $2,000 to $5,000 per month, month-to-month. A fair quote states what is included: flows, campaigns per month, SMS, testing and reporting. Vague "custom pricing" with no range makes comparison impossible.

What are red flags when vetting a Klaviyo agency?

Watch for no named team, a promised lift with no baseline, reporting built on open rates alone, and no account ownership for you. Ask for revenue per recipient and placed order rate by flow and campaign. Klaviyo's benchmarks put flow placed order rate at 2.11% and campaigns at 0.16%.
